Interactive Object Manipulation in Augmented Reality
The key to AR design is crafting experiences that blend seamlessly into the user’s perception, making interactions feel instinctive and effortless.
The challenge was to design intuitive methods and affordances that function at a human scale—whether for objects we instinctively expect to pick up or for those far beyond our physical capabilities.
The answer lies in a layered approach, leveraging the Universal Object Manipulator: a cage system that offers multiple ways to manipulate objects, including handles, direct touch, and numeric input.
With Direct Manipulation, you can seamlessly pick up and place objects as if they were real.
Cage Controls allow users to manipulate and position objects with enhanced precision, whether up close or from a distance.
Precision mode allows users to fine-tune large objects down to the millimeter—perfect for architectural design.
